Mrs. Collins

Dear Families,
I am honored to be your child's teacher this year.  This is my 19th year of teaching at Cleveland, and I love spending time with our students each day.  My husband Rick and I have two grown children. All four of us attended Michigan State University.  Go Green!    In addition, I earned my Masters Degree in Elementary Education from University of Michigan.
Life is an adventure, and outdoor adventures keep me happy, especially hiking, bike riding, swimming, water skiing, kayaking, and cross country skiing.   This past summer my husband and I were lucky enough to visit the Upper Peninsula and see several waterfalls.  We also swam in Lake Superior, Lake Michigan and Lake Huron and several inland lakes.  This was especially exciting to me because in third grade social studies we research Michigan history and geography, and I was fortunate to capture the beauty with pictures that I can share in our classroom to enhance our studies of Michigan.
We all experience our own adventures, and we can learn about others' experiences through pictures, books and movies.  Our classroom library and school LMC are packed with adventure books.  In Writer's Workshop we write about our experiences, revise, edit, and then share our completed writing pieces with classmates.   The third grade curriculum builds on previous skills and prepares students for fourth grade, so I encourage all students to enjoy the third grade adventure and achieve all they can.
